The School Education Minister, K Sengottaiyan, in his address at the Teachers' Conference conducted by the Times of India in Chennai said, "Around 80 lakh engineering graduates are unemployed in India, with 1,68,000 engineering graduates unemployed in Tamil Nadu. The State Government will accept suggestions from teachers to make changes in the education system. The State Government has introduced a new syllabus with 256 courses which will help students clear the exams," he added.

K Sengottaiyan emphasized that students should also concentrate on planting trees. "From next year, every student will be awarded a total of 12 marks with 2 marks for every subject, for tree planting."
