Coimbatore: The Vice-Chairman of the National Commission for Scheduled Castes, L Murugan has warned that stern action will be initiated against officials who did not take any action against deaths caused due to manual scavenging.
Coimbatore: The Vice-Chairman of the National Commission for Scheduled Castes, L Murugan has warned that stern action will be initiated against officials who did not take any action against deaths caused due to manual scavenging.
L Murugan who was in Coimbatore to attend the grievance day meeting for SC/ST held at the Coimbatore Collectorate addressed the media. He opined, "We conduct a grievance meeting since elderly people cannot come to Chennai to file their petitions. Two persons died while cleaning the sewage at Singanallur here.
Action will be initiated against officials who did not take action against such deaths caused due to manual scavenging. Based on complaints, 120 acres of Panchami lands were recovered in Coimbatore. The SC/ST Commission itself has come forward and investigated many cases, and also have issued compensation. The case on Bharathiar University is pending in Court and action will be initiated regarding allegations," he noted.
