Tirupur : The Vice-Chairman of the National Commission for Scheduled Castes, L Murugan has urged removal of encroachments in Panchami lands and use them for a ‘Housing for all’ scheme.

L Murugan received petitions from people at the grievance meeting held in Tirupur which was conducted by the Adi-Dravidar and Tribal Welfare Department.

Later, while addressing the media, he said, "As it is not possible for people from all parts of the State to head to our office to file their petitions, we are heading to all the districts to collect petitions. We are also planning to meet people in all the taluks.

Loans up to Rs. 52 lakhs have been provided to beneficiaries under the TADCO scheme. We have urged for removal of encroachments in Panchami lands to build houses under a ‘Housing for all’ scheme. Since Rs.100 crores has been allocated for the development of SC, ST in the rural areas of Tamil Nadu, an order has been passed to find out about the villages that require these welfare schemes," he added.

"People who oppose the Alagumalai untouchability fence are the ones who does not go to that temple. They have not even taken part at the "opinion gaining" meets which were held there. The fence has been erected as per the request of the local people which was only for protection," reiterated L Murugan.

The District Revenue Officer, the City Police Commissioner and many others also took part in the grievance meeting.
