Coimbatore: JACTO- GEO has announced a temporary withdrawal of their strike which began on January 22 for fulfillment of their 9 demands. This included the implementation of the old pension scheme and the payment of 21 months arrears under the 7th pay commission. Lakhs of members took part in the protest which was held across the State.

About 50 members were arrested and 6 suspended. Following a stern warning from the State Government, 96 percent of the teachers who had participated in the protest had returned to work yesterday. JACTO-GEO have just announced that are withdrawing from their protest temporarily.
Speaking on this, Mayavan, member of JACTO-GEO said, "A meeting was convened in which representatives of more than 150 unions participated. Discussions on arrest of members during the protest and other related issues were discussed during the meeting. As per the Chief Minister's request to return to work from tomorrow, we are temporarily withdrawing our protest."
