The Mudumalai warden, Rajesh Kumar, veterinary doctor Kalaivanan and forest department officers who were on duty at that time rescued the elephant and named it ‘Masini.’ In 2015, Masini was sent to Samayapuram temple. On May 25, the elephant turned aggressive attacking a mahout Gajendran who died while also injuring eight others.
Following this, a plea was filed at the Madurai bench of Madras High Court urging that the elephant be sent back to Mudumalai. The High Court has ordered for the elephant to be taken back to the camp at the Mudumalai Tiger Reserve after being provided the necessary treatment. The elephant was treated at the Veterinary College at Orathanadu in Tanjore, following which it was taken back to the Theppakadu elephant camp where Masini was finally given a bath by the officials.
