Coimbatore : The Coimbatore Government Hospital (GH) which serves as the main hospital for the poor and needy in Coimbatore, Tirupur, Erode, Nilgiris and Kerala has performed 16,072 major surgeries and 74,593 minor surgeries in 2018 which indicates a 30 percent increase as compared to their 2017 records of surgeries done.

The GH administration was proud of their performance and indicated that they have done 60-70 major surgeries every day during the past year. Over 1300 in-patients and over 8000 outpatients have benefited every day from its wide range of healthcare services.

It has various specialty departments that cater to various ailments in patients. From emergency care to treating cancer patients, the GH in Coimbatore caters to a diverse set of healthcare needs for the needy in the region.

In this scenario, the hospital is now perceived as doing better than ever from its just-released figures about the number of surgeries performed in the hospital. In 2017, 12,708 major surgeries and 53,049 minor surgeries were performed in the hospital.

While these are impressive numbers, it is a laudable feat for Coimbatore GH to have increased those numbers in 2018 to a 30 percent rise in surgeries done. The Government Hospital in Coimbatore has thus provided untiring service around the clock as the main healthcare center for people in and around Coimbatore District as well as Kerala, since many are unable to afford the cost of being treated at private hospitals.
