The Nilgiris: A government school in Thummanatti village located in Udhagamandalam won the Tamil Nadu government's clean school award for the year 2017-18.
A cash prize of Rs.10,000 and a citation was awarded to the school by District Collector, J. Innocent Divya at an event held at Gudalur on Tuesday.
The school was among 48 government schools in the district chosen for the award for excellence in sanitation and hygiene practices.
Among the parameters facilities like safe drinking water, clean toilets, hand washing practices were judged by the panel.
"The parent teacher association and the villagers have been extending their monetary support towards the school's development. Even today, a generous resident from the area donated four CCTV cameras to monitor safety at the school", noted a parent.
Cultural programmes were conducted as part of the event.
