The Nilgiris: Police arrested over 300 Government employees who participated in the JACTO-GEO protest today in Ooty. Despite stringent warning from the State Education Department, the indefinite strike continued into Tuesday, across Tamil Nadu.

The Government has claimed that fearing suspension, 90 percent of the teachers have resumed work in all the districts across Tamil Nadu. Contrary to the statement, more than 300 teachers protested at the busy Charring Cross junction in Ooty, this noon.

Traffic came to a standstill since the protestors took out a rally. While the police requested them to disperse, the JACTO-GEO members continued their rally thus becoming a public nuisance that led to altercations between the teachers and the police.

The arrested teachers said that the police were being unfair and unruly. "The police just walked up to us and forced us into the bus and dumped us in a wedding hall," alleged one of the protestors. However, the police justified their actions by citing traffic congestion during busy hours as a reason for having to arrest the protestors.
