Coimbatore : The number of members taking part in the indefinite strike called by JACTO-GEO is reportedly decreasing with teachers returning to duty following orders from the High Court and School Education Department.
The Madras High Court Justice, N Kirubakaran, while hearing the case on Monday vehemently expressed his concern and urged teachers to get back to work today to enable students prepare well for their board exams without any further delay.
Heeding to the orders from the judiciary, teachers across the State are said to have reported back to work while some of them are still on the roads protesting and seeking proper redressal from the Government.
Over 500 JACTO-GEO members participated in the road rokko organised today near the Collectorate, along with many women representatives. Commenting on teachers who have reported for duty, they said, "Let them go to work but we will not step down until our demands are met."
Sources say that despite the ongoing strike, it is reported that almost 90 percent of teachers in Higher Secondary and Middle Schools have turned back toward their schools to report for duty following the order that those who do not report for duty today will have their posts announced as vacant.
Meanwhile, staff from the Tamil Nadu Secretariat and other organisations have raised their hands to support the JACTO-GEO members, further disconcerting the Government. "However, the intensified strike will only end when the Government agrees to their demands," quipped a close source.
