Spate of accidents on Coimbatore roads claims many lives over two days

Coimbatore : Coimbatore roads known for an increasing number of road accidents continued to claim lives, especially int he past two days.

In an accident on the Arasur-Kalapatti Road near Vagarayampalayam, a two-wheeler bearing three people on it collided head-on with a container lorry. All three died on the spot. Initial investigations revealed that they were immigrants from the Northern part of India. The police have arrested the lorry driver and commenced investigation. 

In another accident, Arumugam (19) along with Simson (18), residents of Mettur near Podanur, while travelling in their two-wheeler from Kuniyamuthur to Maachampalayam, unexpectedly fell into a nearby canal, two days ago. Passersby rescued them from the canal and rushed them to the Coimbatore Government hospital. Arumugam died on his way to the hospital, while Simson died at the hospital, without responding to treatment. 

Velliyangiri (38) of Peththikuttai near Sirumugai, was riding his two-wheeler with his friends on Sathi Road and collided head-on with a car. Velliyangiri died on the spot while the 5 passengers in the car and the others on the two-wheeler were severely injured. The Sirumugai police have commenced investigation. 

Kulandhaivelu (80) and his son Kanagaraj (44) of Devanapuram near Karamadai, died without responding to treatment at the Coimbatore Government Hospital after they sustained grievous injuries in a freak accident when they were hit by a speeding two-wheeler while having a conversation by the roadside. 

Rajan (50) of Venkitapuram on Thadagam Road and Moorthi (40) of West Street, Nilambur, were travelling on a two-wheeler on the Coimbatore-Trichy Road, near Karayampalayam Pirivu. They collided head-on with a car and both died on the spot. The Sulur police have registered a case and commenced investigation.
