The JACTO-GEO members continue to agitate against the State Government despite being warned that disciplinary action will be taken against them. However, the School Education Department had extended time till 9 am today for the striking teachers to return back to duty, failing which their posts will be announced as vacant.

Over 2,100 members including teachers and government employees were reportedly detained yesterday by the police for being instrumental in causing traffic jams on the busy roads between Collectorate and Ukkadam owing to their protests.
Students across the State are reportedly miffed by the behavior of teachers and have asked them to quit their protest to return back to duty since Board examinations are around the corner. Students apparently have been completely taken aback by the absence of 3152 primary and middle schools teachers within the Coimbatore City limit. IN spite of fervent pleas, the JACTO-GEO members have decided to sand firm and stick to their demands until the government steps down to meet their demands .
Meanwhile, the Government is trying hard to balance the demands of its teachers and the declining number of students enrolling in Government schools by adding more benefits, when possible. The unrelenting demands of the teachers has raised eyebrows across society.
"If there is no move from the State Government to end the ongoing strike, it will surely reflect in the results of the final examinations, and so who will then be responsible for the outcome," demands a parent.
A source says that apart from those members who have been acquitted, a few of them have been remanded which has inconvenienced the JACTO-GEO delegation. In Tirupur, more than 2500 members were arrested by the police and were lodged in six marriage halls. They were not released even after 6 pm. The police have registered cases against 27 members of the JACTO-GEO for heading the protest and took them to the Government Hospital for medical tests.
