According to reports, Kalyana Sundaram who is the Manager of a construction company at Kalapatti here, had received a call two days ago from a person who introduced himself as the Assistant of the Coimbatore District Collector. The person sought Rs.1 lakh from Kalyana Sundaram allegedly saying the amount had to be provided for a friend on the lookout for a new house. The impostor is reported to have said that he would send his colleague to Kalapatti Road where Kalyana Sundaram can hand over the money. Kalyana Sundaram who grew suspicious, nabbed the man who was sent and handed him to the Peelamedu Police station. The police found that the person who was nabbed was a call taxi driver. Based on the complaint from Kalyana Sundaram, the Peelamedu Police have registered a case and are on the lookout for the person who first made the phone call to Kalyana Sundaram.
Meanwhile, the City Police have released a statement stating that the public should be aware of impostors blackmailing people seeking money over the phone. According to the statement issued by the police, "Based on the orders from the City Police Commissioner, Sumit Sharan, three special teams were formed under the supervision of the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Balaji Saravanan. People should immediately inform the police if they receive any suspicious call."
