Innocent Divya expressed that youngsters should not skip their responsibility to cast their votes. An awareness event in this regard was organised at the office of tribal community at Ooty on Friday.
The Nilgiris : On the occasion of 9th National Voters’ Day, the District Election Officer and District Collector J. Innocent Divya expressed that youngsters should not skip their responsibility to cast their votes. An awareness event in this regard was organised at the office of tribal community at Ooty on Friday.
Addressing the gathering, the Collector said that "India is a democratic country and by voting we provide better leadership to the country. Youth who have completed 18 years should be enrolled as a voter and importantly newly enrolled voters should register their votes".
She recalled that during last Parliamentary elections only 73% of the people in the Nilgiris had cast their votes. "In the upcoming elections, we should strive to make it a 100%", she urged.
As part of the event, essay writing, painting and elocution competitions on the theme 'voting' was held in various schools across the District. The Collector distributed prizes to the winners of essay-writing competition at schools.
