Tirupur : Power supply to around 13 villages in Tirupur has been suspended, as a high power transformer in Avinashi sub-power station exploded.
According to sources, "The transformer at Attayampalayam sub-power station near Avinashi exploded due to leakage of oil thus damaging another transformer next to it".

On information, the fire fighters from Avinashi Fire Station rushed to the spot and doused the fire. Due to this power outage has been reported in 13 villages around the power station including Attayampalayam, Thevampalayam, Sulai, Salaipalayam and Raakkipalayam.

Commenting on this, a TNEB official stated that "The accident has cost us Rs. 1.50 crore. Power supply will re-routed to all the 13 villages from another nearby power station by the end of the day".
Meanwhile, people in this locale accused that the ill-maintainence of the transformers has led to this accident.
