Coimbatore : The Rural police celebrated Pongal with the tribal families at Athikadavu village in Mettupalayam today. Police personnel distributed traditional clothes and cooked Pongal along with the tribes here.

Tribes from over 30 villages in the area took part in the celebrations. Personnel from Rapid Action Force, Naxal Special Division who camp inside the forests along with tribes took part in the celebrations. R Pandiarajan, Superintendent of Police took part in the celebrations and distributed new dhotis and sarees to over 1000 persons. They also donated four wheelchairs to differently-abled here.
Addressing at the event, SP R Pandiarajan said, “The tribal community should continue its support for the forces in the forest. Tribes should alert Naxal Special Division immediately if they notice movement of unknown persons inside the forest.” He added that tribes should remember that police are always friends with the public. The SP also said the force has blocked Maoist infiltration into Tamil Nadu forests from Kerala.
