Coimbatore : The work of various stake holders working towards the welfare of the ecosystem at Singanallur Lake was given a credit on Saturday as Radio City 91.1 honoured the volunteers with an award at an event in the city.
Coimbatore : The work of various stake holders working towards the welfare of the ecosystem at Singanallur Lake was given a credit on Saturday as Radio City 91.1 honoured the volunteers with an award at an event in the city.
The Coimbatore Citizen Award, given by Radio City 91.1 was handed over to Commissioner of Coimbatore City Municipal Corporation (CCMC) K. Vijayakarthikeyan, the Chairman of the Centre for Urban Biodiversity Conservation and Education (CUBE) in the presence of volunteers from CUBE.
Talking about the choice, K. Prabhu, Regional Programming Director of Radio City 91.1 said that the efforts taken by CUBE have been appreciable in converting the lake from what it was to what it is.
“They have done laudable work including assessing the biodiversity in the lake which counts to more than 700; creating miyawaki patches; strengthening the lake bund; bringing a fishing ban; introducing environment education and conserving the ecosystem there on the whole. The lake has also been declared as Urban Biodiversity Conservation Zone,” Prabhu said.
He further added that it was high time such citizen involved activities are recognised by the city on the whole .
15 others were awarded in the event including sportsperson, actors and writers.
The event marked the fifth edition of Coimbatore Citizen Annual Award Function and was jointly organised by Y’s Men’s Club of Coimbatore and Coimbatore Vizha.
