Coimbatore Police Direct Agencies to Monitor Workers, Especially Migrants
SimpliCity News Team · 24 days ago
With a focus on preventing unlawful activities and ensuring the safety of workers, particularly migrant workers, the Coimbatore District Police have directed manpower agencies, companies and labour contractors to maintain proper records and promptly report suspicious or serious incidents to the police.
The directions were issued at a consultation meeting convened at the Coimbatore District Police Office on September 11. The meeting, chaired by Coimbatore District Superintendent of Police Pavan K. Reddy, brought together representatives of manpower agencies, companies and labour contractors functioning within the district police limits.
Issuing the directives, the SP instructed manpower agencies to ensure that they are duly registered and maintain the identity, address, employment and accommodation details of workers engaged through them, particularly migrant workers. Their basic details must also be furnished to the jurisdictional police station and updated whenever new workers are engaged.
Agencies and contractors were directed to immediately inform the police if any worker goes missing, absconds or leaves the workplace or accommodation without informing those concerned. They were also instructed to promptly report minor quarrels, disputes, assaults or other incidents involving migrant workers at workplaces or residential premises to prevent such incidents from escalating.
Any abnormal or suspicious behaviour noticed among workers should also be immediately brought to the notice of the police, the SP said.
The meeting further emphasised the need to share information regarding the transportation, possession or sale of ganja, banned tobacco products and other illegal substances allegedly brought from other States into Tamil Nadu.
The SP directed those present at the meeting to communicate the instructions to other manpower agencies and labour contractors. He also asked agencies, companies and contractors to continuously monitor workers engaged through them, acting with moral and social responsibility to ensure their safety and prevent unlawful activities.
He warned that suppressing relevant information or failing to report serious or suspicious incidents to the police could invite appropriate legal action in accordance with the law.
