Tirupur : As Tamil Nadu is gearing up to celebrate the harvest festival of ‘Pongal’ with great zeal and fervour, the government school students in Tirupur took the opportunity to welcome the harvest festival ahead by preparing 'Pongal' in mud pots and offering prayers to the Sun God.
Tirupur : As Tamil Nadu is gearing up to celebrate the harvest festival of ‘Pongal’ with great zeal and fervour, the government school students in Tirupur took the opportunity to welcome the harvest festival ahead by preparing 'Pongal' in mud pots and offering prayers to the Sun God.
Hundreds of students of Najappa Higher Secondary School in Tirupur were clad in traditional attire 'Veshti' and decked up their school with colorful Kolam and strings of flowers.
The students cooked Pongal, the traditional way using mud pots along with their teachers. As part of the celebrations, traditional games like Uriyadi, Kabbadi, Kummiattam, Oyilattam and others were also conducted.
Speaking on this the School Authorities said "In an intent to revive our culture and remind the students on our traditional festivities, we decided to celebrate Pongal for the very first time in our school. Such festivities and informal get togethers help strengthen the bond between the students and relieve them from mental stress".
