The Nilgiris: Farmers have urged to carry out desilt works in Bangalorai waterway in Kotagiri as the waterway continues to shrink due to non-maintenance.
Mountain vegetable farming is carried out in large numbers at Pilikkambai, Onnathalai and its surrounding areas in Kotagiri. As farmers in this area largely rely on the water way running between Bangalorai-Kudimanai for agriculture, the waterway has turned unfit for agriculture purpose due to the plants, saplings grown everywhere. Snowfall and high temperature in day times has further reduced the water flow in the waterbody. Due to this, farmers are in doubt to carry out the cropping works in February and March month.
Following this, farmers have urged to carry out desilt works to ease the flow of water and to carry out works to maintain motor sets. Likewise, Public of Kattapettu Kudimanai area have also urged to carry out maintenance works in the motor pump set installed in their area.
