Coimbatore: The city police have deployed over 1500 police personnel at different parts of Coimbatore for the safety of public travelling during the Pongal vacations.

Both government and private institutions have announced multiple days of holidays for Pongal celebrations and the public are expected to travel during the upcoming days. To prevent any incidents of pickpocketing or robbery, 1500 police personnel are put on alert at different parts of the city.
Especially, at places including Coimbatore railway station, Gandhipuram town bus stand, SETC bus stand, Singanallur bus stand, Town Hall, Ukkadam, Podhanur railway station and various other places, where public are expected to gather in huge numbers.
Police have advised the public to safeguard their personal belongings and cautioned women to refrain from wearing jewellery during night travel.
