Coimbatore: I welcome the High Court’s order and the State government should implement it immediately, said Daniel Jesudas, the social activist who filed PIL against the government’s move to give Rs 1000 Pongal cash gift.
Daniel Jesudas said, “I welcome the Madras High Court’s order. While the government is starving for funds to compensate Gaja cyclone victims, it doesn’t seem right to offer cash gifts to all.” He added that the State government should work towards reducing its loan burdens instead of increasing it. Daniel said that their aim was not to object government’s decision but to restrict the gift to people below the poverty line.
