Coimbatore: Technical sanction for rejuvenation of the Valankulam lake, Periakulam lake and Selvasinthamani lake has been awarded and tender for the same will be called on February 10.
The Coimbatore Corporation has taken up rejuvenation of eight lakes namely Ukkadam valankulam, Periakulam, Selvasinthamani, Singanallur lake, Narasampathi, Krishnampathi, Selvampathi and Kumarasamy under the Smart City program. The project is aimed at rejuvenating eight lakes under the Corporation’s maintenance, developing the area around those lakes into public places, developing parks and walking tracks.

As part of the first phase, three lakes Valankulam lake, Periakulam lake and Selvasinthamani lake will be rejuvenated and restored at a cost of 161.5 crores. This includes strengthening of bunds, setting up sewage treatment plants and waste water management systems. As far as lake restoration is concerned, the 161.5 crores is in addition to the on-going quick win projects underway at the Valankulam lake and Periakulam lake which mainly focuses on the beautification of lakes.
