Coimbatore: Welcoming the initiative taken by Congress Party in appointing Apsara Reddy, a transgender activist as National General Secretary of 'Mahila' National Congress their women's wing on Tuesday, 8 January, Transgender Activist and Artist, Kalki Subramaniam has opined that more transgenders should join politics.
Expressing her thoughts on the 134-year-old party's move "Such moves will help shatter the social stigma on transgenders and ensure inclusivity".
When questioned on how people's reaction would be, if transgenders contest in elections? Kalki strongly opined that "People will support us and definitely vote".
The All India Mahila Congress has welcomed Apsara aboard and called the move a step towards inclusivity, acceptance and compassion.
