Coimbatore : Farmers petitioned at the District Collectorate here urging to implement the old Avinashi-Athikadavu scheme instead of the newly-proposed one.

The petition filed by the Tamil Nadu Farmers Association stated, "The plan of the old scheme is to supply water to Avinashi from Athikadavu. But in the modified new scheme plan, it has been proposed to take water from the Kalingarayan canal which will be of no benefit to us, as areas including Mettupalayam, Karamadai and Periyanayakkanpalayam were left out of the list.

The modifications were made for the benefit of the constituency of Minister Sengottaiyan. The new scheme should be withdrawn and the old one should be implemented," noted the petition.
