The Nilgiris: A traditional Toda tribal marriage was solemnized today by the indigenous people of Nilgiris at one of their villages called kasha Mund in which hundreds of Todas took part and performed the rituals in their colourful attire.

In the traditional marriage of the Todas, the bride and groom are taken to the forest and given a bow and arrow made up of Poo Shankara, a flowering plant. Later, they would be led to offer worship to the tribal deity in the presence of thousands of the Toda relatives.

The bow and arrow ceremony is part of the solemnization of marriage to the couple. Accordingly Uthil Kuttan, the groom presented the bow and arrow to the bride Jayashree and accepted her as his life partner.

The traditional marriage was witnessed by thousands of Toda tribes congregating to the Kash Mund to solemnize the marriage of a young couple who are stepping into matrimonial bliss.
