While meeting a cross-section of people from the cluster of villages including Veerapandipuram, Meelavattan, and Pandarapatti who met and implored the Puthiya Tamilagam leader to lend his political and moral support for the reopening of the closed Sterlite plant, the villagers said that a misinformation campaign was carried out against the Sterlite plant as an environmentally hazardous industry, which has not been proven yet. “Arguments such as the plant could lead to the spread of cancer was only notional. In fact, many have lost their jobs due to the closure of the Sterlite plant," lamented the community members who met Dr. Krishnasamy.
Later, while briefing the media, Dr. Krishnasamy said, "As a former MLA of Oddapidaram constituency under which the Sterlite plant falls, I have been approached by the people living around the plant to lend my support for reopening of the plant even as NGT has given a clean chit to the copper smelting plant. I appeal to the State Government to come out with a white paper after a thorough study of the environmental and health impact caused by the Sterlite plant in the past 22 years, since its inception in 1996. This would help dispel many doubts in the minds of the people in Tamilnadu," added Dr. Krishnasamy. He also mentioned that he intends sending separate representations to the State and Central Governments for facilitating the reopening of the Sterlite plant in the interest of the people who bemoan the loss of their livelihood, due to the sudden closure of the plant.
