The Nilgiris : People of Badagas community in the Nilgiris district celebrated their traditional week-long festival ‘Hethai Habba’ with special offerings and religious fervour, today.
‘Hethai Habba’ is the main festival of the indigenous Badaga community who live in over 300 villages in the Nilgiris. Badagas offer special poojas to Hethai Amman, the presiding deity in 14 villages including Perakani, Jekathala, Onnathalai, Pethuva.

This year, the festival started at Perakani village, last week. Today, special poojas were performed at Hethaiamman temple at Jekathala and thousands of Badagas, clad in their traditional white dress took part in the festival.

Hethaikarars, the people from eight villages including Othanati, Perati, Mallikorai, Manjuthalla who are holding 48 days fasting, performed traditional rituals, as part of the festival today.
