Coimbatore: Ahead of Vinayagar Chathurthi, Hindu organisations and members of the public have installed and consecrated over 300 Vinayagar idols across Thudiyalur, ITI, Aravan Thidal, Rangammal Colony, NGGO Colony, Narasimmanaickenpalayam, Rakkipalayam, Panneermadai and APM Nagar areas in Coimbatore, where worship has been continuing.

The idols have been set up in a variety of grand designs, including temple-style structures, a replica of the Mumbai Lalbagh Vinayagar, and Vinayagar seated amid a waterfall in a forest setting. Organisers have also been distributing pongal, sundal and kozhukattai as anna dhanam, while drawing crowds with drum and jamap music performances and models of animals such as elephants and rabbits.

Vinayagar Chathurthi is being celebrated with grandeur across the country today. In Tamil Nadu too, the festival is being marked with elaborate idols, anna dhanam and processions.

As part of these celebrations, Hindu organisations and the public have installed more than 300 Vinayagar idols across Thudiyalur, ITI, Aravan Thidal, Rangammal Colony, NGGO Colony, Narasimmanaickenpalayam, Rakkipalayam, Panneermadai and APM Nagar, with worship continuing at all these locations.

At Coimbatore ITI, flowers were showered on an LED screen displaying a replica of the Mumbai Lalbagh Vinayagar, followed by worship and anna dhanam. In the Thudiyalur area, a set was created depicting Vinayagar seated amid waterfalls in a forest setting.

In Rakkipalayam, a grand set was erected with the Vinayagar idol illuminated by sparkling LED lights. In Narasimmanaickenpalayam, a temple-style set was built featuring a drum music performance, a lifelike elephant figure offering blessings, and a grand Vinayagar idol for worship. Nearby, the Arulmigu Varasithi Vinayagar Temple was decorated with currency notes worth Rs 10 lakh for the occasion.

At NGGO Colony, a grand stone-style Vinayagar idol was installed for worship. In the Aravan Kovil Thidal area, Pillayar was depicted seated on a peacock vehicle, while in Rangammal Colony, a blue-hued Vinayagar idol was placed along with rabbit-shaped figures to attract children. The nearby Varam Tharum Varasithi Vinayagar Temple was given special decoration for the occasion. Worship with over 300 idols also took place in the APM Nagar and Panneermadai areas on behalf of the public. All these idols are set to be immersed in the pond at Vellakinar the day after tomorrow.
