Coimbatore: The city police have made elaborate security arrangements on New Year's Eve. Police will be posted all over the city to prevent any untoward incidents during the New Year celebrations.

Traffic will be closed on vital flyovers in North Kovai, Avinashi Road and Nanjappa Road from 10.30 pm to 1 am to prevent speeding accidents on these flyovers by New Year revellers.

While 23 police patrolling bikes and 23 jeeps will be involved in city round ups all through the night today, security is to be beefed up in front of six Hindu temples, 62 churches and cathedrals and 30 star hotels in the city during the New year celebrations, as part of overall security measures. Added to this, 22 special police teams will be engaged in the city to nab drunk drivers and put a check on wild revelry tonight. Fire service personnel are on high alert to tackle any eventualities.
