Ramanathapuram: A man who donated HIV positive blood accidentally to a pregnant woman in Tamil Nadu Government Hospital attempted suicide by consuming poison today. The donor is currently undergoing treatment at Ramanathapuram Government Hospital.

Recently, a 23-year-old pregnant woman undergoing treatment at a Government Hospital in Sattur was transfused HIV positive blood by accident. The donor, who discovered that he was HIV positive during a routine medical checkup done earlier this month alerted the Hospital about the recent blood donation drive he took part immediately and advised them to not to donate his blood to anybody. However, due to lapse in the screening processes, the infected blood was transfused to the pregnant woman. Officials contacted the woman immediately and she has been put on antiretroviral medications as a precaution.

Knowing about this, feeling depressed, the youth attempted suicide by drinking poison today. The youth was rushed to Kamuthi Government Hospital for treatment and he was later shifted to Ramanathapuram Government Hospital for better treatment.
