Coimbatore : With Union Forum of Bank employees (UFBE) an umbrella body of 9 bank unions and All India Bank Officers Confederation (AIBOC) have called out for a nationwide strike on December 21 and 26, respectively.
Hence, the banking operations are expected to take a huge hit. Barring Monday, (December 24) banks will remain closed on Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Tuesday, upto December 25. The continuous holidays will take a huge toll on business operations.
The bankers union has embarked on the strike demanding to give up the proposed merger of Bank of Baroda, Vijaya bank and Dena bank and better pay packages for the employees.
Introduction of five day work week, salary revision and pension benefits are some of the other demands proposed by the unions, which earlier walked out of the bipartite talks with Indian Banks Association.
The bank strike would put a lot of inconvenience to the public as services would be stalled during the extended period, dotted with holidays.
