Coimbatore: The CII Coimbatore is conducting a two-day Regional Summit on Higher Education which kick started today. The focus of the Summit is 'Drivers of Higher Education 3.0 - Technology, Innovation and Competency.'
M Ramesh, Chairman, Coimbatore zone, K Senthil Ganesh, Convenor- Education panel, CII Coimbatore and Revathy Kant, Vice President and Chief Design Officer, Titan Company Ltd. participated in the inaugural session. Speaking on the occasion, the CII Chairman explained how design thinking plays a major role in product development.
"Design thinking is not limited to one team of people. It involves all the stake holders including the production team, machine shop employees and the end-users of the product, which will help in creating a productive design," added Ramesh.
Stressing on the need for academic institutions to improve the skill sets of students, Revathy Kant said, "The Industry-Academia interaction has to be improved to produce industry-ready students. Innovation has to be a regular affair. Many Industries are gobbled up by digital intervention.
So, learning should be a continuous process not only for students but for the faculty too, The problem-solving skill is the first and foremost requisite for students. Design thinking is a tool that helps in problem solving. Students should be equipped enough by the institutions to learn this skill."
The Summit includes sessions on Interdisciplinary dynamics, Leading digital business transformation and Competency building which is to be held tomorrow.
