Coimbatore: On November 28 this year, K R Abilash Babu, Loco Pilot and Ved Prakash Meena , Assistant Loco Pilot of a goods train (Erode) experienced a jerk while the train was running between Mecheri Road–Mettur Dam in the Salem–Mettur Dam section around 10.50 hours.
Coimbatore: On November 28 this year, K R Abilash Babu, Loco Pilot and Ved Prakash Meena , Assistant Loco Pilot of a goods train (Erode) experienced a jerk while the train was running between Mecheri Road–Mettur Dam in the Salem–Mettur Dam section around 10.50 hours.
Immediately, the Loco Pilots informed the guard of the train and section engineers. The train was stopped at Mettur Dam which was the next station. On receiving information, the Section Engineer and the team proceeded to the spot. A rail fracture was found. Subsequently, speed restriction was imposed in the section. After repairing the cut rail, the speed restriction was withdrawn and train operations resumed with normal sectional speed at 17 hours on 29th November, 2018.
This year on December 3, around 6.30 hours, while a goods train was running in Pettaivayatalai–Kulitalai section in Tiruchchirappalli–Karur section of Salem Division, the Loco Pilot Niranjan Lal Meena and Kundan Kumar the Assistant Loco Pilot (Erode) experienced a heavy jerk and stopped the train at the next station Kulitalai. Information was swiftly passed to the Station Master of Kulitalai and the Section Engineers. Upon inspection of the tracks, the Section Engineer noticed a weld failure and imposed speed restriction in the section. The weld failure was immediately attended to and tracks were restored.
On December 8, around 18.35 hours, B Ramesh Kumar, the Motorman of Train No. 66607 Coimbatore-Palakkad Town Passenger, experienced a jerk while the train was passing through the Podanur-Madukarai section and he stopped the train at Madukarai which was the next station. The Station Master of Madukarai who received the information from the Motorman swiftly informed the Section Engineers. A weld fracture was noticed upon inspection by the Section Engineer and speed restriction was imposed in the section to ensure safe train movement. Once the weld fracture was attended to, normal sectional speed was restored on December 9 at 14.00 hours.
In recognition of the alertness and ensuring safety for trains by these railway personnel, they were presented awards and merit certification from R K Kulshrestha, General Manager, Southern Railway. The General Manager lauded the loco pilots for their swift action and exemplary devotion to duty in ensuring safe train operations. U Subba Rao, Divisional Railway Manager, Salem and other officers also appreciated the work of these Loco Pilots of Salem division.
