Coimbatore : Police have arrested five persons on charges of duping several lakhs of money from public, on the pretext of procuring allotment to houses at the housing unit built by Slum clearance board here.
According to reports, in 2014, Shanmugan of Kottaimedu handed over a sum of Rs 73,000 to Kunjumon and Gayathri who promised him to get allotment of a house at the housing unit of Slum clearance board.
As the duo prolonged to hand over the house, Shanmugam developed suspicion and enquired about the dealing. He then realized that he was cheated by the couple. Shanmugan then filed a complaint with the city police commissioner.
Following this, a case was filed against the accused based on the orders of city police commissioner, Sumit Sharan.
Police have arrested Gayathri (35) wife of Kunjumon, Jeyakumar (48) son of Mani, Suguna (38) wife of Jeyakumar, Kunjumon (59) and Shaji (37), member of friends of police in connection to this case.
All the five offenders connected in this case have duped around Rs. 30,000 - Rs. 70,000 each, from close to 40 persons on the pretext of allocating houses.
