Eighty year old woman killed by elephant


In a tragic incident, an eighty-year-old woman from Mettupalayam was killed by an elephant at Periyanaickenpalayam in Coimbatore on Tuesday.

The incident occurred when M. Masaniammal from Alangandi Village went to collect fuel wood inside the Kobanari Reserve Forest in Periyanaickenpalayam around 6.30 pm. An elephant that was roaming in the area, had attacked and killed Masanimmal.

Based on a tipoff by the locals, officials from the forest department retrieved the mortal remains of Masaniammal and sent it to Coimbatore Medical College and Hospital for autopsy.
