Youth arrested on rape charge

Thudiyalur All Woman Police have arrested a 23-year-old youth on Thursday for allegedly raping a 12-year-old girl of the same locality in Kurumbapalayam, earlier in the day. The victim was a 6{+t}{+h}standard student and went to attend nature’s call when the incident took place.

The police said that the accused R. Prabhu (23) was a two-wheeler mechanic. On Thursday morning, the victim went to the vacant land with thorny bushes opposite her house to relieve herself, when the accused followed her and raped her. The girl on returning home informed her father, a construction worker, about the incident.

On a complaint lodged by the father, the police booked Prabhu under sections 3 (a) (penetrative sexual assault) and 4 (punishment for penetrative sexual assault) of The Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. Police launched a search for the accused and arrested him. He was produced before court and remanded to judicial custody on Friday.

Inspector S. Amutha, who is investigating the case, said that the girl was subjected to medical examination at the Coimbatore Medical College Hospital, on Friday, to substantiate the charges and was given treatment.
