Temperature expected to go up

The city is reeling under the heat as Mercury levels are soaring and weather forecast websites are predicting a further rise in temperatures in the next few days.

According to India Meteorological Department (www.indiaweather.gov.in), the temperature on Thursday evening (about 5 p.m.) was 37.9 degree Celsius in the city and the maximum temperature is expected to be 38 degrees Celsius for the next five – six days.

According to a couple of other weather forecast websites, the maximum temperate is expected to hover between 38 degree Celsius and 41 degree Celsius between Friday and Monday.

The meteorological office in Chennai says maximum temperature might go up by one or two degree Celsius in the next three days and there might be light drizzle too.

According to Tamil Nadu Agricultural University, the city has not seen the usual rainfall that is experienced during this period.

“We are experiencing scorching sun for eight to 8.5 hours a day,” says S. Panneerselvam of the Agro Climate Research Centre at the university.

The forecast of maximum temperature for the next three days is 39 degree Celsius.
