The Coimbatore Corporation has fined a parking contractor Rs. 25,000 for allegedly fleecing motorists by charging parking fees above the rates fixed by the civic body at parking lots in Gandhipuram and Srinivasapuram, under Ward 68 of the Central Zone.
Coimbatore: The Coimbatore Corporation has imposed a fine of Rs. 25,000 on a parking contractor for fleecing motorists by charging parking fees above the rates fixed by the civic body.
The action came after Corporation officials received complaints from vehicle users at the parking lots in Gandhipuram and Srinivasapuram, which fall under Ward 68 of the Central Zone.
Based on the complaints, officials inspected the parking lots and found that the contractor, Sumathi, who holds the lease, was collecting fees higher than the rates fixed by the Corporation.
Officials imposed a fine of Rs. 25,000 on the contractor for violating the conditions of the auction under which the parking lots were leased and issued a stern warning.
The Corporation warned all parking lot contractors to adhere to the prescribed rules or face consequences, including termination of their contracts.
