Coimbatore District Dams: Water Level Details

Major dams in Coimbatore district—Aliyar, Parambikkulam, and Solayar—show varying water levels as of July 30. While Aliyar experiences reduced inflow due to decreased rainfall, Parambikkulam and Solayar witness rising water levels owing to southwest monsoon, bringing relief to farmers across the region.

Coimbatore: The Water Resources Department has released details regarding the water levels of major reservoirs in Coimbatore district—Aliyar, Parambikkulam, and Solayar dams. As of July 30, all three dams have recorded varying water level changes, reflecting the impact of ongoing monsoon conditions.

The Aliyar dam near Anaimalai has a full capacity of 120 feet. Currently, the water level stands at 54.7 feet. The dam is receiving an inflow of 195 cubic feet per second while releasing 250 cubic feet per second. Water Resources Department officials reported that due to reduced rainfall, the inflow to Aliyar dam continues to decline, raising concerns among local authorities about water availability for irrigation and drinking purposes.

Meanwhile, the Parambikkulam dam near Pollachi, with a total capacity of 72 feet, has reached a current water level of 25.36 feet. The dam is recording a significant inflow of 937 cubic feet per second while releasing 40 cubic feet per second. Thanks to the southwest monsoon, Parambikkulam dam's water level continues to rise steadily. This positive development has brought considerable relief and joy to farmers in the region who depend on the reservoir for agricultural activities.

The Solayar dam near Valparai, which has a full capacity of 160 feet, currently holds water at 59.22 feet, according to Water Resources Department officials. The dam is receiving an inflow of 942 cubic feet per second while releasing 514 cubic feet per second. Due to the continuous impact of the southwest monsoon, Solayar dam's water level is also showing a favorable upward trend, ensuring adequate water supply for downstream areas.

With the monsoon bringing increased water levels to most dams in Coimbatore district, there is optimism that sufficient water will be available for both agricultural and drinking water needs. Water Resources Department officials continue to monitor the water levels of all dams closely, ensuring proper management and distribution of water resources throughout the region.
