Amaravathi and Tirumurthi Dam Water Levels Rise in Tiruppur District

Continuous rainfall in Tiruppur district has increased water levels at Amaravathi dam to 51.12 feet and Tirumurthi dam to 29.99 feet. Water Resources Department officials report steady inflow continues to both reservoirs, bringing relief to farmers and residents.

Coimbatore: The water levels at two major reservoirs in Tiruppur district - Amaravathi and Tirumurthi dams - have risen significantly due to continuous inflow. As of July 21, both dams are receiving steady water supply from their catchment areas, Water Resources Department officials confirmed.

The Amaravathi dam, with a total storage capacity of 90 feet, has reached a water level of 51.12 feet. The reservoir is currently receiving an inflow of 89 cubic feet per second from its catchment areas. Officials stated that necessary water discharge is being maintained from the dam to manage the increasing storage levels.

The Tirumurthi dam, located near Udumalaipettai in Tiruppur district, has a storage capacity of 60 feet. The current water level stands at 29.99 feet. This reservoir is receiving significantly higher inflow compared to Amaravathi dam, with 461 cubic feet per second of water flowing in. The dam is currently releasing 21 cubic feet per second, Water Resources Department officials reported.

With continuous rainfall in the catchment areas, water levels in both dams are expected to rise further in the coming days. This development brings welcome relief to farmers and addresses drinking water requirements in the region. Water Resources Department officials are continuously monitoring the water levels and stated they will increase discharge rates if necessary to ensure safe dam operations.
