Water Levels Rise in Coimbatore District Dams Due to Southwest Monsoon

Water levels in Aliyar, Parambikulam, and Sholayar dams in Coimbatore district are steadily rising due to the southwest monsoon. As of July 8, water is being continuously released from all three dams to manage the increasing inflow from catchment areas.

Coimbatore: Water Resources Department officials have reported that water levels in major dams across Coimbatore district are gradually rising due to the southwest monsoon rains. As of July 8, water is being continuously released from Aliyar, Parambikulam, and Sholayar dams to manage the steady inflow from their respective catchment areas.

The Aliyar dam, located near Anaimalai, has a maximum capacity of 120 feet. Due to rainfall in the catchment areas, the current water level stands at 54.4 feet. The dam is receiving an inflow of 213 cubic feet per second, while 150 cubic feet per second is being released, according to officials.

Parambikulam dam near Pollachi has a storage capacity of 72 feet. With the southwest monsoon continuing to bring rainfall, water inflow from the catchment areas has increased significantly. As of July 8, the water level has risen to 17.08 feet. The dam is receiving an inflow of 1,243 cubic feet per second, with 620 cubic feet per second being released.

Sholayar dam in the Valparai region has a capacity of 160 feet. Due to rainfall in its catchment areas, the water level as of July 8 stands at 83.79 feet. The dam is receiving an inflow of 853 cubic feet per second, while a higher volume of 1,366 cubic feet per second is being released, Water Resources Department officials stated.
