Coimbatore: The Coimbatore District Police are set to file a detailed chargesheet before the Special POCSO Court today in connection with the sexual assault and murder of a 10-year-old girl near Sulur in Coimbatore district.
The case, which sparked widespread outrage across Tamil Nadu, has been under intensive investigation under the direct supervision of senior police officials since the incident came to light. Two accused, Karthik and Mohanraj, were arrested within 24 hours of the crime.
A Special Investigation Team headed by IG Ramya Bharathi, along with the DIG, Coimbatore District Superintendent of Police, three Deputy Superintendents of Police and four Inspectors, carried out a comprehensive investigation into the case from multiple angles.
During the probe, the accused were taken into custody and questioned. Investigators collected and examined scientific evidence, witness statements, medical reports and other relevant materials as part of efforts to establish the sequence of events and strengthen the prosecution case.
With the investigation now complete, police are expected to submit a chargesheet running into more than 800 pages before the Coimbatore Special POCSO Court today. Officials believe that the swift completion of the investigation and filing of the chargesheet within weeks of the incident could facilitate an expeditious trial in the case and help ensure timely justice.
