Samsung Workers End Strike Following Successful Negotiations

Samsung workers in Coimbatore end their strike that began on September 9, 2024, after successful negotiations mediated by government officials. The agreement addresses workers' concerns and ensures a smooth return to work.

Coimbatore: The prolonged strike by Samsung workers, which began on September 9, 2024, has come to an end following successful negotiations mediated by government officials. The breakthrough came after Chief Minister's directive to resolve the issue through dialogue.

A series of talks were held under the leadership of the Minister for Public Works, Highways and Minor Ports, Minister for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, Minister for Labour Welfare and Skill Development, and Minister for Industries. Various government officials from different departments participated in these multilevel discussions with both parties.

As a result of these negotiations, the Samsung management announced several welfare schemes for the workers. A conciliation meeting was held on October 15, 2024, in the presence of Labour Department officials, where representatives from both the management and the striking workers participated. The following decisions were reached:

1. Workers agreed to immediately call off the strike and return to work to maintain industrial peace and public order.

2. The management committed not to take any retaliatory actions against workers solely for participating in the strike.

3. Returning workers pledged to fully cooperate with the management and refrain from engaging in any activities against the management.

4. The management agreed to submit a written response to the workers' demands for wage increases and general grievances before the conciliation officer.

Both parties accepted these terms, with the workers agreeing to end the strike and return to work immediately. This successful resolution marks the end of the labor dispute at the Samsung factory in Coimbatore, with all workers set to resume their duties.
