Electricity Minister Senthil Balaji chaired a meeting in Coimbatore on October 15 to discuss monsoon preparedness. He announced a color-coded system for vehicle movement in underpasses during rains and assured minimal disruptions to power supply.

Coimbatore: Electricity Minister Senthil Balaji led a crucial meeting on monsoon preparedness at the Coimbatore District Collector's office on Tuesday, October 15.

The meeting, attended by District Collector Kranthi Kumar Pati, Corporation Commissioner M Sivaguru Prabhakaran, Coimbatore MP P R Natarajan, Mayor R. Ranganayaki Ramachandran, and other department officials, focused on measures to tackle the upcoming monsoon season.

Addressing the media after the meeting, Minister Balaji stated that the Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister have provided guidelines for monsoon preparedness. He emphasized that despite heavy rainfall in Coimbatore over the past two days, effective measures have been implemented to minimize public inconvenience.

The minister highlighted that even during intense rainfall, water drainage has been efficiently managed within a few hours. He urged the media to report not only on rain-related issues but also on the government's proactive measures to address them.

Balaji revealed that six locations in Coimbatore have been identified as prone to waterlogging, and necessary steps are being taken to prevent water stagnation in these areas. Notably, he announced a new color-coded system for underpasses to indicate which vehicles can safely pass through during rainy conditions.

Regarding power supply, the minister assured that the electricity department is well-prepared for the monsoon. He stated that there would be no disruptions in power distribution in Chennai, Coimbatore, and other areas across the state.

The minister also addressed the issue of electrocution risks, mentioning that precautionary power cuts might be implemented in certain areas to prevent accidents due to fallen power lines. He noted that electrocution-related fatalities have decreased compared to previous years and expressed confidence in further reducing such incidents in the coming years.

Balaji announced the creation of WhatsApp groups comprising electricity board officials and senior authorities across Tamil Nadu to share information about potential issues swiftly. He also cautioned against the circulation of old videos on social media for political purposes.

Highlighting the government's focus on Coimbatore's development, the minister stated that it is the district most frequently visited by the Chief Minister. He praised Coimbatore's rapid growth, comparing it to Chennai, and promised more development projects for the city in the future.

In conclusion, Minister Balaji emphasized the continuous efforts of the Deputy Chief Minister and other ministers in conducting review meetings to ensure uninterrupted progress. He dismissed criticism from opposition leader Edappadi K. Palaniswami regarding these meetings as politically motivated.
