World Sight Day: Students Conduct Awareness Campaign in Coimbatore

On World Sight Day, Sri Ramakrishna Polytechnic College students in Coimbatore collaborated with police to raise awareness about road safety by affixing black stickers on vehicle headlights at Thudiyalur signal.



Coimbatore: Students from Sri Ramakrishna Polytechnic College in Vattamalaipalayam, near Thudiyalur, Coimbatore, conducted an awareness campaign on World Sight Day in collaboration with the local police. The campaign, which took place at the Thudiyalur bus stand junction, focused on road safety and involved affixing black stickers on vehicle headlights.



The event was organized by the National Service Scheme (NSS) Units I and II of Sri Ramakrishna Polytechnic College to commemorate World Sight Day, observed annually on October 10. Dr. R.N. Uma, the college principal, presided over the function.



Several police officials participated in the event, including S. Latha, Inspector of Thudiyalur Police Station, G. Guruganesh, Sub-Inspector, and Traffic Sub-Inspectors Durai, Savithamani, and Prabhakaran.

As part of the campaign, students affixed black "bull's-eye" stickers on the headlights of vehicles to raise public awareness about preventing road accidents. This initiative aimed to highlight the importance of proper visibility and road safety measures.



More than 80 NSS student volunteers from the college actively participated in the awareness drive. The event was coordinated by NSS Program Officers S. Karthik and C. Vinu, who made the necessary arrangements for the successful conduct of the campaign.

The collaboration between the educational institution and the police department demonstrated a united effort to promote road safety and reduce accidents in the city. By engaging students in such community-oriented activities, the college aims to instill a sense of social responsibility and create awareness about important issues among the younger generation.
