Jana Krishnamurthy: Disciple Who Passed Away on Guru's Birthday - Vanathi Srinivasan MLA Remembers

Vanathi Srinivasan, MLA of Coimbatore South, pays tribute to Jana Krishnamurthy on his death anniversary, recalling his six-decade public service and contributions to BJP and Indian politics.

Coimbatore: Vanathi Srinivasan, MLA of Coimbatore South constituency, shared a tribute on her Facebook page today (Sep. 25) remembering Jana Krishnamurthy, who served in various roles including BJP National President and Union Law Minister, on his death anniversary.

Jana Krishnamurthy, who worked tirelessly in public life for over 60 years, joined the RSS while still in school. He was arrested at a young age for protesting in Madurai against the ban on RSS following Mahatma Gandhi's assassination.

Among those imprisoned with him were notable figures like former IAS officer and archaeologist Iravatham Mahadevan, former 'Dinamani' newspaper editor, Manipur Governor Ila Ganesan's brother Ila. Narayanan, and BJP senior leader H. Raja's father Hariharan.

Jana Krishnamurthy became a full-time worker for Jan Sangh in 1968, accepting Vajpayee's invitation after the mysterious death of Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya, one of the founders of Bharatiya Jana Sangh.

He filed a case in the Supreme Court against Indira Gandhi's decision to hand over Katchatheevu to Sri Lanka. He also predicted the ethnic conflict in Sri Lanka before it erupted.

His contributions during the 1975 Emergency and the 1977 general elections were immeasurable. Despite declining the Governor's post offered by Vajpayee and Advani, he resigned from his position as Union Law Minister due to health issues.

Jana Krishnamurthy played a crucial role in forming the AIADMK-BJP-PMK-MDMK alliance for the 1998 Lok Sabha elections, which defeated the previously successful DMK-TMC alliance. He narrowly lost the South Chennai constituency by just 17,000 votes.

Like Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya, Jana Krishnamurthy prioritized ideology over personal advancement, even refusing positions that came seeking him.

Interestingly, Jana Krishnamurthy passed away on September 25, the birth anniversary of his political guru Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya. Vanathi Srinivasan concluded by honoring Jana Krishnamurthy as the first Tamil to become the national leader of a national party after Kamaraj.
