Coimbatore: District Collector Kranthi Kumar Pati has issued a statement today, September 24, announcing the upcoming livestock census and urging public cooperation. The census, conducted every five years by the central government through the Department of Animal Husbandry, plays a crucial role in planning livestock development and welfare programs.

The livestock census aims to collect accurate data on various animals, including cattle, buffalo, goats, horses, dogs, pigs, chickens, and ducks. The enumeration will cover households, shops, gardens, and farms. This comprehensive data collection will be carried out using a specially designed mobile application.

The 21st nationwide livestock census is scheduled to commence in early October 2024. For this purpose, the Coimbatore district administration has appointed 234 enumerators and 48 supervisors to oversee the census work. These officials have undergone extensive training at various levels to ensure the smooth execution of the project.

District Collector Kranthi Kumar Pati has appealed to the public to extend their full cooperation to the enumerators who will be visiting to collect information for the livestock census beginning in early October. The Collector emphasized the importance of accurate data in formulating effective policies and programs for livestock development and welfare.

This census is a critical tool for the government to assess the livestock population, its composition, and growth rate. The data collected will be instrumental in shaping future policies, allocating resources, and implementing targeted programs for the betterment of livestock and the farming community.
