Tirupur: A second hearing was conducted by Udumalpet Tahsildar Sundaram regarding the alleged misappropriation of over Rs 1 crore in Bodipatti Panchayat, near Udumalpet in Tirupur district. The inquiry, ordered by District Collector Christuraj, follows complaints of financial irregularities amounting to Rs 1.56 crore involving 298 instances over the past few years.

The district administration had previously formed a committee to investigate the allegations. The committee's report, after examining expense receipts from January 6, 2020, to March 31, 2022, reportedly found discrepancies, prompting action under local body laws as directed by the then District Collector Vineet.

An initial hearing was held on April 24, 2023, chaired by the then Udumalpet Tahsildar Kannamani. After a gap of 17 months, the second hearing took place today under Tahsildar Sundaram's leadership, as per Collector Christuraj's instructions.

Twelve panchayat council members participated in the meeting, each presenting their views individually. Finally, DMK Panchayat Council President Soundarajan was questioned. The entire proceedings were video recorded.
