Coimbatore: A special Gram Sabha meeting for social audit was held today (Sept.13) at the Gram Sevai building in Akkaraisengapalli Panchayat, Annur Union. The meeting was presided over by Panchayat President Sivagami Chinnasamy, with Panchayat Secretary Moorthy in attendance.

During the meeting, Social Audit Officer Kanagaraj presented and read out a report on the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Prime Minister's Housing Scheme) and the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) scheme. These central government initiatives aim to provide housing for the rural poor and ensure livelihood security in rural areas, respectively.

The social audit process is crucial for ensuring transparency and accountability in the implementation of these schemes at the grassroots level. It allows the local community to review and evaluate the effectiveness of government programs in their area.

The Gram Sabha meeting serves as a platform for villagers to actively participate in local governance and express their opinions on the implementation of various development schemes. Such meetings are essential for fostering democratic participation and ensuring that government initiatives reach their intended beneficiaries effectively.
