Prisoner from Coimbatore Central Prison Dies in Hospital

A 57-year-old prisoner from Kotagiri, serving a sentence for a 2009 murder case, died while undergoing treatment at Coimbatore Government Hospital on September 8.

Coimbatore: A 57-year-old prisoner, Kullan from Kotagiri in the Nilgiris district, who was serving a sentence at the Coimbatore Central Prison, passed away while undergoing treatment at the Coimbatore Government Hospital on Friday (September 8).

Kullan was arrested and sentenced in 2009 for a murder case that occurred in Kotagiri. He had been incarcerated at the Coimbatore Central Prison since then. Recently, his health deteriorated, and he was initially treated at the prison hospital.

As his condition worsened, Kullan was admitted to the Coimbatore Government Hospital on Friday for advanced treatment. He was placed in the prisoners' ward, where doctors provided intensive care. Despite their efforts, Kullan's condition did not improve, and he tragically passed away during treatment.

Following the incident, Coimbatore Prison Warden Saravanakumar filed a complaint at the Race Course Police Station. The police have registered a case and are conducting an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the prisoner's death.

This incident has raised questions about the health care facilities available to prisoners and the protocols followed when inmates require advanced medical attention. The authorities are expected to conduct a thorough inquiry to ensure that all proper procedures were followed in Kullan's case.
